Loose Electric Meters – we find them, and they are more common than people may think. But when there is a loose electric meter, who is responsible to fix it? The home owner? The power company?
When it comes down to it,who provides the power and where your home is located determines the answer to those questions. But for the most part, here is a general rule of thumb – The power company owns the meter, and the home owner owns the meter box.
So what does that mean? It means that it is usually up to the home owner to have the meter box fixed. Once in a great while a power company may fix it in certain circumstances, but for the vast majority of the time it is up to you. Fortunately it is a pretty easy fix. Simply hire an electrician who will have the power turned off for a short period, he will re-secure the box, and then have the power turned back on.
